Congratulations to our Centre Director, Professor Aziz Sheikh, who on Friday was officially awarded the University of Edinburgh Principal's Medal for Exceptional Service.

This prestigious award recognises a staff member, or team, who makes a contribution to the University that far exceeds what is expected of their role. The University of Edinburgh Principal's Office said:

Professor Aziz Sheikh, Director of the Usher Institiute, receives the award in recognition of his large contribution in establishing the Allergy and Respiratory Research Group and the many important initiatives that have flowed from it.

Over the past 12 years, Professor Sheikh and the Allergy and Respiratory Research Group - which includes Centre members Lynn Morrice, Allison Worth and Hilary Pinnock - have built the critical mass to attract major research funding, and have had a lasting effect on clinical training and practice which has influence throughout the UK and internationally. Most significantly, their work has brought great benefit to people affected by asthma through improvements to practice and carefully designed patient engagement in research.

We are delighted that the University of Edinburgh Principal has chosen to recognise Professor Sheikh and his team with this important award.
