Thank you to all delegates who attended the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research methodology workshop in January. Held in the Tomlinson Centre, London, the workshop focused on Maximising Information from Empirical Studies.
Aims of the workshop were to:
- Bring together those in AUKCAR (and others) who are interested in methodology
- Hear about a number of specific ideas for maximising research output
- Provide an opportunity to interact and share ideas for maximising output from asthma research
- Generate ideas for moving forward in developing methodology in this area
Many thanks to our speakers who delivered the following presentations:
- Data Sharing (Catrin Tudur-Smith, Liverpool)
- A Funders’ Perspective (Peter Brocklehurst, UCL)
- Short-cuts to Randomised Evidence (Seif Shaheen, QMUL)
- Core Outcomes in Asthma (Ian Sinha, Liverpool)
- CDISC (Brendan Delaney, Imperial College)
- Swat: Study within a Trial (Prepared by Helen McAneney, Queen's University Belfast; delivered by Sandra Eldridge, QMUL)
- Trial Forge (Prepared by Shaun Treweek, University of Aberdeen; delivered by Chris Newby, QMUL)
The response from our 29 attendees was very positive with delegates reporting that they 'will now think about data sharing at the grant writing stage'. Others enjoyed the methodology around data sharing.
Following the workshop, the methodology team produced an Introduction to sharing individual participant data document, which is available to view and download here.
