Do you work in a GP practice in the UK?
-
Would you like patients at risk of asthma exacerbations to be flagged in your practice computer system?
-
Would you like your practice staff to be trained to design and incorporate a new practice-wide pathway for acute and chronic management of asthma for your practice?
Read on to find out how.

Professor Andrew Wilson is working with the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research to deliver the ARRISA-UK study – a cluster randomised practice based study designed to help people at risk of experiencing asthma exacerbations.
The ARRISA approach involves identification of people at-risk of severe asthma exacerbations, flagging of their electronic health records and practice-based training. The study is based on the regional pilot which suggested that this approach halved the number of hospitalisation for asthma. The intervention was well received by practice staff and was cost effective.
In the ARRISA-UK study the at-risk individuals will be identified using algorithms and data will be collected automatically from routine datasets. The main practice involvement is for 4 or more practice staff to complete a web-based CME eLearning programme which is designed to explain the background and method of this approach and will facilitate you to design and incorporate a new practice-wide pathway for acute and chronic management of asthma for your practice. There is appropriate reimbursement of research costs.
Find out more on the ARRISA-UK website.
Or if you are a GP practice considering participating, you can go directly to an online form at the Norwich Clinical Trials Unit website, to complete a practice survey online.
(This works best with Internet Explorer 9 onward, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or on an iOS device) or as either a Word or PDF document to download, fill, and email or post to the ARRISA-UK team. To fill the online form you will need to know your practice’s NHS ID (which looks like: “D12345”; if you are uncertain about yours, call the ARRISA-UK team who can tell it to you.)
Once the team have received your completed survey, they will contact you to confirm your eligibility.
